Seeing This Story in My Hands

Today I held the finished copy of The Treasure He Buried—What He Couldn't Take in my hands, and I was filled with a mix of pride, nostalgia, and emotion.

Seeing the pages in print brought back so many memories of Cuba, and watching those memories take shape through illustrations made the book feel even more meaningful.

At the heart of The Treasure He Buried—What He Couldn't Take is a young boy facing a life-changing goodbye. As his family prepares to leave Cuba, he gathers the little things that mean the most to him and hides them away, hoping that somehow a piece of his childhood can remain behind.  Inspired by my own family's memories, the story is about home, family, change, and the treasures we carry with us even when we have to leave so much behind.

I wanted to tell this story through the eyes of a child- through the little things that mattered most: family, pets, favorite places, and the treasures that made home feel like home.

For me, this book is about preserving the memories that stay with a family long after a place has been left behind.  Seeing those memories come together on each page— and now holding the finished book in my hands—is something I will always treasure.

Although this story is told for children, I think many adults will see a little of themselves in it too. Memories of home, family, and childhood have a way of staying with us, no matter how many years pass.

Thank you for letting me share this very special story with you, and for supporting me as I continue to bring these memories and stories to life.
